Introduction

Ayurveda treatises stress the need of two human values for the spread of this great science and they are maitri (friendship) and karuna (compassion). Basically, the need to help the suffering humanity drives the profession. It is said by the great masters that a helpless sufferer should be literally treated at the vaidya's own son or daughter. The vision of Center for Social Outreach and Tribal Welfare is this - simply, friendship and compassion. The Centre has two activities - one, medical: weekly clinic for the tribals in Agali and periodic medical camps in rural areas; two, empowering the tribal youth to manage the medicinal plant usage in their area effectively and train them to become Grama Swaasthya Sevaks (Village Health Volunteers) in association with Arogya Foundation.
